For the money you will not be disappointed. I have been fishing for over 50 years with bait casting equipment. I purchased several of these to teach younger fishermen how to cast a level wind bait cast reel. The reel is smooth and works as well as many reels several times its cost. The reel is also small enough for younger guys or older gals with small hands. That is not to say it does not work well for larger hands like mine but it will be very comfortable for them to grip and hold onto while casting. Like any piece of equipment, you should inspect it and clean and oil it before you use it. There may be screws that need to be tightened and that is just part of learning how to take care of your equipment. As it is cold where I live now, I have not put serious time on the newest reel yet. I will update my review later after I spend more quality time fishing with it
