Most of the reels I purchase cost at least $100 more than this one, but I was looking for something to use for some lighter finesse fishing and did not feel like I needed an upper end reel for my intended use. Looked at the available options Shimano had, I love Shimano reels by the way, and decided this one would fit my needs. Once I got the mag brake set and the standard spool brake set and got in some serious casting I fell in love with this reel. I paired the first one with a 6’6″ all star medium action rod and it is a great combo. In fact I am so pleased with this reel that I have just purchased 2 more to replace a couple of older reels I have that I have been wanting to replace for a while, but did not want to part with the $300-$400 needed to replace them with like reels. However after using the Caius I am convinced that this reel will be more than satisfactory to meet my needs for the replacement of these 2. If they perform as good as this one, I may start using this as my standard reel as I replace others with the exception of my jig rig. Don’t think pairing it with a 7′ heavy action rod, 40# fiber line, and a 1/2 oz. jig would be conducive to long life, but for everything else I do, think this reel will be good and better.
